About Davis Islands
Located immediately southwest of Downtown Tampa, Davis Islands form a unique neighborhood unlike none you have experienced. Our atmosphere is laid back and small-town Caribbean, but the proximity to bustling downtown Tampa affords our residents a traffic-free 5 minute work commute.
Although surrounded by an urban core, our islands hold no high-rise buildings or congested highways. Further, Davis Islands residents find most amenities they would need right in their backyard. We have a village with restaurants, gas stations, convenience stores, a bank, post office, and a pharmacy. At our southern end, you will find a public dog beach and executive airport with seaplane basin. Tennis courts, public parks, baseball fields, and a sparking marina hug the east side of our island with beautiful vistas of Harbour Island and downtown. On our west side, residents enjoy golden sunsets setting over the bay and historic Hyde Park. Finally, to our north you will find Tampa General Hospital, a world class hospital with airlift trauma center.
As you amble along D.I.’s winding streets, you will encounter a strong spanish influence on our homes’ architecture, noting the islands’ storied past. Fort Brooke served as the first permanent settlement on the islands in the early 1800’s. In the early 1900’s, the islands took a more permanent shape as local developer D.P. Davis shaped the islands into his vision, an escape from reality. Davis established a 9-hole golf course, several hotels, an airport, and a Coliseum to serve Tampa Bay. After Davis’s misterious death at sea, the islands became more residential. The 1940’s welcomed many new residents of Spanish and Latin descent from historic Ybor City, who built the Mediterranean mansions that still stand today.
Indeed, our islands have a long and diverse history that continues to form. We invite you to become a part of the Davis Islands tradition with a visit to Amber Oaks.
Frequently Asked Questions
What unit types and sizes do you offer?
Amber Oaks has two-bedroom one-bath apartments and one-bedroom one-bath apartments. Each unit comes with a common balcony facing our shaded courtyard. Our two-bedroom units have about 780 square feet of space, while our one-bedrooms have 600 square feet. Although some may perceive this number as small, we implement several space saving measures so you really feel like you have a lot of space.
How is parking at Amber Oaks?
We have many dedicated resident spots behind the building and ample on-street parallel parking. Our residents have not had an issue with parking.
How close are you to Davis Island amenities?
In a word: very. Come walk it yourself!
What utilities are offered?
Amber Oaks comes pre-wired for Bright House or Verizon FIOS entertainment. TECO provides electric service in the resident’s name, while each resident pays a common water/sewer/trash fee.
I heard many Davis Island apartments have window A/C boxes. What do you offer?
Every unit has its own central heating & A/C. No loud window units that drip! On this note, our units are of very high quality construction and design that you really need to see to appreciate.
Can I hear my neighbors through the walls?
Our units have a concrete block construction with a poured concrete slab between floors. This is not common for apartments, and provides for excellent soundproofing compared with most places.
Will I be able to fit my clothes in the closet?
All bedroom closets come with built-in custom organizers for maximizing your space. This should give you the ability to fit more into the closet than you could at most places.
Why are you called Amber Oaks?
When you visit our property, you will immediately notice two giant oak trees that provide shade for our courtyard entrance. They also shade many unit windows, lowering your energy bill during the hot summer months. You will be hard pressed to find shade like this on many other Davis Islands properties.
